SMEDJAN was established upon a deep reverence for the artistry of woodcraft. From the earliest days of my upbringing, the adoration for wood has been passed on to me by both my father and my grandfather.
Among my cherished recollections, I fondly recall one of my initial playthings: a meticulously hand-carved wooden toy, a work of my grandfather’s craftsmanship. The utmost delight in receiving this creation lay not only in its tactile charm but in the privilege of accompanying my grandfather during its creation within his modest carpentry sanctuary. I spent several hours in quiet reverence, transfixed by the magical transformation of a simple piece of wood into my cherished toy.
Back home, still as a young boy, my family house had an old smithy, or forge. This place was turned into a large carpentry workshop by my dad and even though we never used it as a forge, we kept referring to this space as “smedjan”. This became the place where I could really take all of my ideas to try and turn them into reality. A place where I could be truly creative. A place where me and my dad always had projects to work on.
